I spent a substantial portion of my childhood in a provincial area in the Philippines, meaning that Asia has always been a substantial part of my life. The collection of cultures within the region vary in unique and exciting ways with each other and is one reason why being Asia-literate is so essential. The economic, social and cultural ties that Australia has with Asian countries is special, and will only grow in importance as time passes. I believe that this provides us all with a special opportunity to immerse ourselves in this growth to contribute to the strengthening of relationships between Australia and the Asian region. I am a keen reader, ride a bike made out of bamboo, enjoy scuba diving and an advocate proponent of sustainability.
