Biography

I am currently studying an undergraduate degree specialising in Statistics and Stochastic Processes. The vast range of fields in which statistics and probability theory are employed fascinates me; these include key applications in medicine and public health, business and economics, and data science and machine learning. I enjoy exploring these different fields of study through elective subjects and particularly look forward to applying my mathematical studies to a specific field in the future.
My Westpac Scholarship will enable a semester of study at Peking University. Through my Chinese background, and – as I have become older – my observation of world affairs, I am increasingly aware of the differences in cultural and governing attitudes between China and the West. However, I strongly believe that these need not ever be barriers to amicable and fruitful relations; I do hope my exchange experience equips me to play a small part in spurring continued collaborative efforts with China in the future.

I look forward to using my time in Beijing to study mathematics, along with traditional philosophy and folklore, whilst immersing myself in the rich history of the country.
