What is the Young Technologists Scholarship?

The Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship was made for talented and inquisitive high school graduates looking to strengthen their passion and expertise in technology to innovate and create new opportunities and inspire good in the world of STEM.

 

Our Young Technologists Scholars get up to three years of financial support for their studies, networking opportunities, mentoring programs and paid internships with senior business leaders and industry-based experts as well as the chance to develop critical soft skills through the Disruptive Leaders Program. The program includes five days in Asia as part of an international learning experience to broaden minds and inspire new ways of thinking.  

 

Scholars must be intending to commence a STEM related degree at one of our five partner universities across Australia, though you do not need to have received a formal offer at the time of your application.

Here’s what you’ll get 

Up to 35 Young Technologists Scholarships are awarded every year across our five partner universities (approximately 7 scholars per university). 
 
If successful, you’ll receive access to:
 
 

Generous funding

Receive up to $20,000 in fully flexible funding for your undergraduate studies to put toward your course, degree materials or living expenses. This funding comprises of $15,000 awarded directly to scholars over three years, plus an additional $5,000 to cover the cost of attending our Disruptive Leaders Program.

Leadership development

Join our Disruptive Leaders Program - a week-long leadership residential held in Singapore. You’ll meet renowned tech experts from around the world while developing important soft skills in communication, cultural competence and leadership. 

W100 Scholars Network

Connect with an inspiring network of like-minded game-changers and achievers across all five of our Westpac scholarship streams and attend exclusive events like the Westpac Scholars Summit held in Sydney. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in mentoring programs as part of the W100 Network.

Eligibility requirements and FAQs

Who can apply?

We’re looking for the best and brightest minds who have decided a STEM-focused future is right for them. Your interest in technology matches your drive to improve the communities around you. We want to help you realise this potential. To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

 

  1. Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Have completed high school within the last two years.
  3. Have chosen to commence an approved STEM-related degree next year at one of our five partner universities. Please note: at the time of applying you do not need a formal offer to your course of choice.
  4. Be able to attend the Disruptive Leaders Program in Singapore (July 2025). Please note: travel and accommodation expenses related to this event are covered by Westpac Scholars Trust.
  5. Be able to attend the 2024 Westpac Scholars Summit in Sydney. Please note: travel and accommodation expenses related to this event are covered by Westpac Scholars Trust.

How you’ll be selected

Your application will be assessed by your chosen university and top candidates will be shortlisted. Candidates will then be invited to attend an interview to determine their selection. The interview panel will be made up of a combination of Westpac Scholars Trust and university staff.   

Our partner universities

The Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship is offered at the following universities:

 

  • Murdoch University
  • Queensland University of Technology
  • RMIT
  • Western Sydney University
  • University of Wollongong.

Students must enrol in an approved STEM-related degree at one of five partner universities. Applicants may enrol in a dual or double degree; however, this must occur from the point of application and include a STEM degree.
